“To do more for the world than the world does for you – that is success.”
~ Henry Ford (1863-1947)
Below are a few wonderful organizations that are making a big difference in people’s lives. Check them out!
The Getting2Tri foundation is a one-of-a-kind organization that spans its focus from athletic endeavors to the changing of people’s lifestyles. We build communities for the coaching, training and mentoring of individuals with disabilities in the sports of swimming, cycling, and running. Individuals with disabilities participating are called “paratriathletes” and their backgrounds are just as varied as their goals; wounded veterans from recent conflicts to individuals with limb loss due to disease or paralysis or injuries inflicted through some form of trauma.
In 2006, Puppies Behind Bars began raising service dogs for the disabled as it enabled us to affect a diverse group of individuals with varying needs and of different ages. In addition to basic obedience, manners, and socialization, inmate puppy raisers are responsible for teaching the pups almost eighty commands.
Once the pups reach eighteen months of age, they are tested to determine their suitability for formal training by PBB. When a puppy is matched with a disabled individual, final training continues specific to the client’s needs. Currently, over forty service dogs are being raised in three of our six prisons.
RELENTLESS from the start, Team In Training participants are FOCUSED on raising as much money as they can to make a difference for cancer patients and their families.
Only The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training (TNT) has:
- Trained over a half a million runners, walkers, triathletes, cyclists and hikers
- Raised over $1.2 billion to fund lifesaving cancer research
- Two 4-5 month training options:
- More than 200 exciting endurance events to choose from.
